CROHN'S DISEASE
Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes inflammation of your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition. Inflammation caused by Crohn's disease can involve different areas of the digestive tract in different people (Mayo Clinic)
ULCERATIVE COLITIS
Ulcerative colitis (UL-sur-uh-tiv koe-LIE-tis) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers (sores) in your digestive tract. Ulcerative colitis affects the innermost lining of your large intestine (colon) and rectum. Symptoms usually develop over time, rather than suddenly. (Mayo Clinic)
GOUT
Gout is a common and complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone. It's characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints, most often in the big toe.
An attack of gout can occur suddenly, often waking you up in the middle of the night with the sensation that your big toe is on fire. The affected joint is hot, swollen and so tender that even the weight of the bedsheet on it may seem intolerable.
Gout symptoms may come and go, but there are ways to manage symptoms and prevent flares. (Mayo Clinic)
ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS
Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disease that, over time, can cause some of the bones in the spine (vertebrae) to fuse. This fusing makes the spine less flexible and can result in a hunched posture. If ribs are affected, it can be difficult to breathe deeply.
Ankylosing spondylitis affects men more often than women. Signs and symptoms typically begin in early adulthood. Inflammation can also occur in other parts of the body — most commonly, the eyes.
There is no cure for ankylosing spondylitis, but treatments can lessen symptoms and possibly slow progression of the disease. (Mayo Clinic)
RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect more than just your joints. In some people, the condition can damage a wide variety of body systems, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart and blood vessels.
An autoimmune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your own body's tissues.
Unlike the wear-and-tear damage of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis affects the lining of your joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity. (Mayo Clinic)
IS INJECTION or IV INFUSION THERAPY
RIGHT FOR YOU?
If you have been diagnosed with one of these chronic conditions, you know your issue may not be curable, but it may be treatable. With infusion management, you can greatly reduce many of the symptoms and conditions of these ailments.
WHAT IS IV INFUSION THERAPY versus INJECTION THERAPY?
Infusion therapy is a method of delivering medication and fluids to your body over a period of time through a needle and IV catheter into your vein. There should be little to no pain from a catherer once it is in place and is a simple process, similar to receiving a shot or donating blood. While this process is a little longer, you do not have to stay overnight in a hospital and can leave the same day from the office after your infusion.
Injection therapy delivers your medication to your skin, muscle or vein through a needle in the form of a shot. If you have ever received a flu shot or vaccine, this is the same quick process.
